In order to achieve the most successful surgical outcomes, careful attention to follow-up care is a critical part of the patient recovery process. Dr. Porter will provide detailed written instructions for each patient following surgery, but it is often helpful to review these instructions, provided below, prior to your visit so that you may ask questions if needed. It is important to fully understand and adhere to all post-surgery instructions—taking medications as prescribed, limiting activity as needed, performing physical therapy, caring for your wound, and gradually returning to a regular diet—to help ensure you have the most successful outcome.
Physical Therapy Protocols
Post-surgical physical therapy is a critical part of the recovery process, helping to speed the healing process and hasten your return to your daily activities. Physical therapy not only helps to improve your mobility, balance, and strength, it helps to ease pain and swelling, reduces scar tissue formation, and improves flexibility. Your physical therapy regimen will vary depending upon the type of surgery you have. In addition to exercises done together with your therapist, you will likely also have ‘at home’ exercises to perform between sessions. Specific instructions for your physical therapist are provided here to help guide you and your therapist in your recovery process.
Educational Resources
I recommend several online educational resources for patients to access the most up-to-date in-depth resources on orthopedic conditions and treatments.
”Dr. Porter repaired the hip fracture that occurred after a fall outside my home in August 2019. I found him to be professional, courteous , thorough and most important, open to discussing ways to accommodate the chronic illness that I have. I would recommend him highly.
